Exciting times ahead for the TV and film industry in London

The British Film Institute’s statistics published earlier this year reflect that film and high-end TV productions spent around £6.8 billion in the UK in 2025, a 22% increase from the previous year. Since TV, film and the creative industries contribute so much to the UK economy every year, real estate investors would do well to consider assets which reflect the importance of this sector. A new project in north London may help that upward trend continue.

Earlier this month, Camden Council granted planning to Yoo Capital’s ambitious project in Kentish Town, titled the Camden Film Quarter. The project is said to deliver a new creative ecosystem which includes 11 purpose-built sound stages using the “stacking” technique allowing multiple studios to sit on top of each other. The project will also deliver 485 new homes with 50% affordable housing, an education facility by the National Film and Television School and London Screen Academy, creative workspaces and production facilities. The film-making facilities will be operated by Oxygen Studios (who worked on the James Bond, Mission: Impossible and Star Wars franchises). The Camden Film Quarter will also allow multiple creative teams (e.g. production and post-production) to work in close proximity to one another, with the added bonus of being close to central London.

Since there is so much creative talent in and around London and the UK attracts many international productions choosing to film here, a new high-end facility in the capital could be attractive for international as well as national productions, with London’s excellent infrastructure and connections.

The industry will be watching closely to see how the Camden Film Quarter progresses and how it fares against competitors like Elstree Studios and Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden etc, located outside of London.

Plans for a £1 billion “film quarter” in north London have been given the go-ahead, boosting Britain’s efforts to establish itself as the movie industry’s chosen alternative to Hollywood.
