| What
kind of work will I do? |
|
| Our
aim is to give you a varied and comprehensive
training involving 6 month seats in commercial
property, construction and two of property
litigation, company commercial and residential
conveyancing, depending on workflows
at the time. By way of example your litigation
seat could involve a work load as varied
as a property dispute through to employment
law. |
|
| We
are a relatively small firm and, as such,
your work experience will not be concentrated
in one specialist area for each of the
seats. This should give you the chance
to broaden your knowledge and practise
a wide variety of law. |
|
| In
each of the departments you will be encouraged
to work for all of the partners and assistants,
not just who you are sitting with, giving
you the chance to see first hand a number
of ways of working so that you can develop
your own style and confidence. |
|
| How
will my training be organised? |
| There
will be an induction course when you
join the firm, introducing you to the
various departments and support facilities.
This will include an introduction to
the firm’s business plan and strategy
so that you are familiar with our aims
and objectives. |
|
| In
each of the departments where you work
you will be assigned to and sit with
a partner or senior assistant in that
department. This partner will be responsible
for ensuring that you receive a varied
supply of work and, where possible, that
you actually manage your own case load
with their support. |
|
| As
well as training on the job as you move
around the departments, you will also
be encouraged to attend the internal
training videos and lectures offered
by each department and external courses.
The compulsory Professional Skills Course
is managed by the College of Law, and
you will of course need to attend and
pass this during your time as a trainee. |
|
| There
is a formal assessment process at the
end of your time in each department.
You will be given feedback on your performance
in that department and also you will
be given the opportunity to give your
own comments on the experience you have
had. Chris Wilkinson has overall responsibility
for yourtraining. |
|
| How
much will I be paid? |
|
| The
current starting salary for a first year
trainee is £20,750 pa rising to £22,750
pa in the final six months. We also have
a benefits package including: |
|
• 25
days annual leave
• pension scheme
• life assurance
• season ticket loan
• part funding of £3,500 is also offered towards the LPC |
|
| How
and when should I apply? |
|
| Ideally
you should apply two years in advance
of when you would like to start your
training contract. We receive most applications
in March-July, 2 years ahead of the September
start date and these are looked at between
July and October. We have no preference
for law or non law graduates and will
always look at high quality applications
outside of this timescale. We have two
trainee contracts a year. Due to the
number of applications which we receive
we are only able to consider applications
with at least a 2(1) at degree level
and ABB at A level.
|
|
You
should apply by sending your CV together
with a covering letter to Chris
Wilkinson.
The selection process normally involves one interview with Chris Wilkinson and
a partner. |
